New facade for hotel tower at Caesars Casino & Resort Atlantic City, NJ

Atlantic City, NJ is vying to become the destination spot of  choice on the East coast.  Much like the growth a few years back in Los Vegas, Atlantic City is pushing to modernize, update, and transform into the premier hotspot on the coast.

Caesars Atlantic City Resort has been expanding and renovating constantly in the past decade with a new hotel tower, parking garage and shopping center.  It opened as Atlantic City’s second casino in 1979 as the Caesars Boardwalk Regency.  Like it’s counterpart in Los Vegas, Caesars has an ancient Roman theme and boasts 145,000 square feet of gaming area, 3400 slot machines and is now one of the largest resorts in the area.

  

Superior Scaffold’s swing stage department was called in to help with the EIFS facade replacement on the towers.  On this multi-phase job, Superior had to install a roof perimeter guardrail, duct protection and system scaffold beneath the swings.  Superior used 3 full Swings, 2 Corner Swings, 1 C shaped swing (4 hoist platform), System scaffold and 1 material hoist.

  

The major challenges faced on this job were the odd shapes and capacity swings that had to be built to allow crews access to all areas of the exterior of the building.

  
  

We also had a very rapid turnaround time.  In the end, the job was done in time and on budget allowing Caesars to have their new facade ready for their summer rush.

  

Caesars Entertainment operates the casino in Atlantic city.  (from their web site) Since its beginning in Reno, Nevada more than 70 years ago, Caesars has grown through development of new resorts, expansions and acquisitions, and now owns or manages casino resorts on four continents The company’s resorts operate primarily under the Harrah’s, Caesars and Horseshoe brand names; Caesars also owns the London Clubs International family of casinos and the World Series of Poker.

Turnaround crews work to revitalize Trainer, PA refinery for Delta Airlines and Monroe Energy.

   

Superior Scaffold is proud to be working with Monroe Energy (a Delta Airlines subsidiary) in an innovative move designed to cut jet fuel costs to the airlines by $300 million.

Crews are revitalizing and renovating the once shuttered Conoco/Phillips refinery in preparation for the restart of fuel production in September.  Monroe is spending $100 million to modify and convert the refinery to produce jet fuel (with an estimated output of 52,000 pdp.

Monroe Energy closed on the $180 Million purchase deal from on July 22^nd and 3 days later Superior had turnaround crews onsite (which is a maintenance procedure basically restoring, optimizing and checking the integrity of the facility and its operations).

  

In the end, Delta hopes the deal will lower its fuel costs, which reached nearly $12 billion last year, the largest expenditure on its balance sheet, while also putting 400 people back to work.

In its day, the old refinery, located on the Delaware River in Trainer, PA about 10 miles southwest of downtown Philadelphia, had a crude oil processing capacity of 185,000 barrels per day and processed mainly light, low-sulfur crude oil.

Superior Scaffold at the University of Pennsylvania, Market & 34th

University of Pennsylvania (U of P) is caulking and waterproofing the façade of their building at 3400 Walnut, (Market & 34th) Pennsylvania, PA  19104.
  
Superior Scaffold provided an intricate sidewalk canopy (sidewalk shed), with overhead protection,
2 blocks long that would allow construction work to go on above while keeping the businesses open underneath.

  
Superior also provided two suspended scaffolds (swings, swing-stage) to allow crews greater access to all areas of the façade.

U of P turned to Superior because of the confidence they have for them to handle the safety requirements and guidelines set up by the city, state, and the university.  Superior is proud to continue their long relationship with U of P.

Renovation at Princeton University Firestone Library

Superior Scaffold was selected to help in the renovation of Princeton’s Prestigious Firestone library because of its long history working with historic buildings on the campus.

In light of the library’s importance in teaching and research at Princeton, the University has committed to a comprehensive renovation of Firestone Library. The renovation is a long-term project that is being done in multiple phases and will take almost 10 years to finish, during which time the library will remain open, and its collections available during normal hours of operation.

  

Superior erected system scaffold allowing crews to get access to all areas of this monumental restoration and parapet wall replacement project.  The library has to remain open while crews do the work.  Superior also provided a series of debris netting and trash chutes to the project.

  

The Harvey S. Firestone Memorial Library opened in 1948 as the first large American university library constructed after World War II.  Roughly 1.5 million volumes were moved during the summer of 1948 from Pyne and Chancellor Green Halls, which until then had served as the University’s main library.  The library building was expanded in 1971 and again in 1988 and currently has more than 70 miles (110 km) of bookshelves, making Firestone one of the largest open-stack libraries in existence.  Though not the largest university library in the world, the library has more books per enrolled student than that of any other university in the United States.

Superior’s emergency scaffold services at Cooper Medical School, Camden, NJ

Superior was called out to scaffold the auditorium in the new
Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, in Camden, NJ
so lights could be repaired and installed.

The challenge here was that all of the auditorium seats had been placed into their permanent locations prior to fixing the lighting issues so Superior designed rolling scaffold to access and repair the malfunctioning lights – and to work around the seating.
   

“Superior Scaffold and our emergency services team quickly assessed the problem and quickly came up with a mighty fine solution,” said estimator, Pat McAndrew.

Rowan University and Cooper University Hospital have embarked on a unique partnership that will initiate the next generation of medical education and will improve health care delivery throughout the region.

With national rankings and a history of educational leadership, Cooper and Rowan are well prepared to develop what will be the first new medical school in New Jersey in 30 years. Students in the planned four-year allopathic program will be educated in a new facility in Camden and graduate to serve the greater South Jersey community and beyond.

Superior scaffolds HQ Nightclub at Revel Resort & Casino, Atlantic City, NJ

In a move only reserved for mythological creatures, the Revel on Atlantic City’s boardwalk has risen like a Phoenix from the ashes of a shattered economy.  As the only remaining project (out of 4 similar) to survive the doldrums of a recession – it’s now poised to become the centerpiece of the boardwalk.

With an infusion of cash ($1.7 Billion from China) construction has moved full steam ahead.  The project, which was mothballed almost two years ago has been given new life and is almost at full capacity.  The history of how this job was constructed, then abandoned, and then reborn is one of epic proportions.  (See details here).

“Superior Scaffold was called in to help the HQ Nightclub (a 40,000 Square foot venue – see details below) because of our experience erecting unique scaffolding layouts in the shortest time possible,” said estimator and salesman extraordinaire, Anthony Pini.

      

There were several major challenges to this task.  The first was to erect system scaffold inside the 4 story oval staircase inside the prestigious nightclub.  Superior had to strategically place scaffolding around the inside perimeter of the oval shaped structure up all 4 floors.  And it had to allow 100% access for dry-wallers, tapers, painters, electricians, and plumbers to do their work simultaneously.

   
The second challenge was that all of the equipment for the job was to be loaded in through a small hatch on the roof using a crane.  If you look carefully at the top of the glass oval structure in the right photo you can see the gray building that houses the HQ nightclub on top.

   

  

And the third was that the entire job had to be done in less than 5 working days.
All of which Superior met, on deadline and within budget.
